The Process
Step 1:
You, and three of your classmates are going to become a team of explorers and research two Native American tribes from California.
Your teacher will assign you to a team.
Once your team is assembled, two of you will be assigned the Coastal Miwok tribe to explore, and the other two members of your team will be assigned the Mojave tribe.
Each group within a team will be asked to research the following aspects of their tribe:
A. The natural resources they used.
B. The way people lived and played.
C. The geographical region they lived in and how it

affected their homes, the way they dressed, what
they ate, and how they survived. (coastal, mountain,
D. The way they traveled and traded with others.
Step 2:
You and your team will be using resources in your classroom, library, and the web.
In your journal, be sure to write the citation for your resource and/or the website. It is important to give credit to the person, who did the original research. Copying is not permitted.
Are you ready to begin? Great, lets start exploring. Click on your tribe, and let's start!
Step 3:
After your research is completed, your team will come together and discuss, how the two tribes compare and contrast. What would happen, if a member of one tribe was mysteriously transplanted into the other tribe. How would he have to adapt? Is this the same way animals adapt to their environments? Prepare a power point presentation for the class comparing and contrasting the different aspects of each tribe and specific survival techniques each tribe incorporated into their daily lives. In addition, feel free to use pictures and graphs in your presentation.

Use the rubric to help guide you with your presentation.
